A little about Sam

Hello World!

My name is Samantha, but most people call me Sam. I am a student at LBCC and I'd describe myself as an introverted extrovert, I don't go out too often, but when I do, I love chatting about my favorite topics and can yap your ear off.

Academically, I’ve shifted gears and am now pursuing a Computer Science degree, which I plan to complete over at OSU. My long term goal is to work for an agency focused on nature conservation. Along the way, I enjoy taking social science classes because it expands my perspective on the world we live in and how I can contribute to a positive conversation.

I haven’t taken a journalism course since my freshman year of high school, which was nearly a decade ago. I’m excited to dive back into the subject and explore the history of media, its impact on society, and its role in shaping public discourse. I’m especially interested in how media determines what’s considered newsworthy and how it influences conversations.

Last term at LBCC, I focused on developing new skills and made an attempt to step away from the digital world. I explored ceramics and creative writing which challenged me in unique ways that were rewarding. Through ceramics, I discovered the joy of hand building and shaping clay into unique creations! This process helped me strengthen skills like patience and mindfulness that I hope to apply to all areas of my life.

Writing, on the other hand, allowed me to express myself and helped me refine my abilities to create and communicate ideas. I wrote a script called the "Last Call" and it was about a bar at the crossroads where desperate people go to make deals with demons, and it was so fun! I never knew that I had it in me to create a 90 page script that I can take to Hollywood.

I'm excited to continue my journey and self discovery here at LBCC. Whether it is exploring the power of media, learning new equations in math, or nurturing my creative side through art and writing, I'm committed to growing both academically and personally. Each class I take brings me closer to these goals. I'm looking forwards to seeing where these passions take me and how they will shape the impact I make on this world!

Cheers!

Sam
